HEALTH BENEFIT

Almonds are full of nutrients that are essential to our health and assist us in maintaining a healthy diet. The following list below provides a list of health benefits that almonds may provide:

  • Great source of Antioxidants

Almonds are a great source of antioxidants. The oxidative stress damages molecules in cells and contribute to aging and diseases like cancer.

The largest concentration of antioxidants in almonds can be found in the brown layer of the skin.

  • Source of Vitamin E

Almonds are among the world’s best sources of vitamin E, and just one ounce of almonds can provide about 37% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin E.

Vitamin E is from a group of fat soluble antioxidants that tend to build up in cell membranes in the body, protecting the cells from oxidative damage.

  • Assist in blood sugar control

Almonds are low in carbs, and contain high amounts of healthy fats, protein and fiber. This makes them a perfect choice for diabetics.

Almonds contain high amounts of magnesium. Magnesium is a mineral involved in more than 300 bodily processes, including blood sugar control. The current recommended intake for magnesium is 310-420 mg. Two ounces of almonds provide almost half of that, with 150 mg of this important mineral.

  • Lowering Cholesterol Levels

Having high levels of LDL in the blood is linked to increasing the risk of heart diseases. Almonds can help control and lower the LDL in the blood when the recommended amount is consumed consistently. The effect may be even stronger when combined with other antioxidants, like vitamin E.

  • Helps to reduce hunger and calorie intakes

Almonds are high in both protein and fiber, and are known in increasing satiety. They help people feel full, so individuals will end up consuming more calories.

  • Assists in Weight loss

Almonds contain several nutrients that are hard for the body to break down and digest. About 10-15% of the calories in nuts aren’t absorbed, and there is some evidence that eating nuts can boost metabolism slightly. Combined with the hunger-fighting properties, it makes sense that nuts are a great addition to an effective weight loss diet.

  • Increase Brain activity

Raw almonds are considered to be effective for the brain, and having a few almonds everyday helps in improving memory and concentration, especially in children. It is also believed to make children sharp and active.

SELECTION & STORAGE

Store under cool and dry conditions in an airtight container. Avoid exposure to strong odors as almonds can absorb odors of other materials if exposed for prolonged periods. If kept under cold storage conditions, whole natural almonds can be stored for about two years with no significant loss in quality.
